Simon has been inspired by a leaf case containing a flower bud. He has created this piece to capture the unfolding, opening of the enclosed potential, change and growth.
Each of Simon Allen's beautifully crafted threedimensional abstract sculptures are firmly rooted in and inspired by his surrounding natural landscape in Cornwall. Simon learnt the art of water gilding whilst working in London in the early stages of his career; this was the starting point for developing a technique which he has now perfected and which characterises all of his work.
Each of his pieces is carved in wood and once hung, appears as if it is levitating from the wall. Every work conveys a sense of nature's hidden energy, and the enclosed and unfolding potential it holds.
