For our third exhibition at the Smithfield Gallery, we have chosen two female artists whose work complements each other whilst at the same time, presenting an eye-catching juxtaposition of subject matter, style and technique. Irene Lees’ striking linear black and white drawings of female garments illustrate imagined human form through intricately drawn knitted fabric. In complete contrast, the form of Sarah McGinity’s paintings is dictated entirely by her fluid application of colour. Clothing is merely suggested as she deliberately concentrates on the head rather than the overall figure. Viewed side by side, these two artists demonstrate a fascinating admiration for female form in two unique styles.
