Coast - Catherine Middleton
InspirationThis Collection of abstract canvases is primarily inspired by Catherine's love of the sea. From childhood, summers were divided between the Devonshire coast and the rather more dramatic scenery of Norway. Like many artists Catherine is fascinated with light and she tries to evoke the continuous movement and ever-changing surface of the sea within her paintings, using different textures. The sea demands not only to be painted as a passive force but also as one wholly affected by the elements. Each painting captures a moment in time, as the forces of nature affect the landscape.TechniqueCatherine uses acrylics; some of the paintings have sand mixed into the paint to give the piece more dimension and feel of the actual shores surface. The sky is highlighted through the use of metallic leaf, which is carefully applied to the painting surface as it glints against the flatness of the paint. Catherine manipulates the paint while it is wet using free flowing brush strokes to create movement within the painting, reflecting the energy of the sea. Small brushes are used to create details in the final touches.CollectionsNumerous private collections & commissions including Candy & Candy Ltd, London |
