Melanie Comber (Apt 30)
InspirationMelanie's work is concerned with the exploration of space and illusionary three-dimensionality through surface texture. Observations of the environment surrounding her or histories of a particular place, provide inspiration and source material. Viewer interaction also plays an important role. Her paintings appear to transform as you look at them from different angles. They have an intangibility that allows each person to impose their own meaning on the work. As Melanie herself says, 'I am attempting to travel through a neurotic exploration of surface, using loose pigment dust as a creator. I am obsessively manipulating large scale textured activities that describe a world balanced between two and three dimensions.' TechniqueMelanie's technique involves pigment dust being layered onto rich oil paint on the canvas or paper. She often introduces other materials to her work such as grit, glue and dust. It is this method that lends itself to the unique appearance of her paintings.CollectionsHaving studied art at the Chelsea College of Art, London, Melanie's work has been exhibited extensively and has been commissioned for major corporate and private collections, including 64, Knightsbridge, Scottish Widows and Prudential. |
